Defigena to celebrate its 10th anniversary on 31 May 2020 : a 100% virtual event for adapting to the health context

Defigena, a family sports event created by the companies Verlingue and Génération, brings together some 1500 participants every year at l’Ile-Tudy to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research. In the context of the Covid-19 crisis and further to various governmental announcements, the 2020 edition of Defigena cannot be held on 31 May as initially planned and will be turned into a 100% virtual event.

Continuing to fund research

The coronavirus pandemic has profoundly affected all peoples worldwide and lastingly disrupted lifestyles. Patients suffering from cystic fibrosis are among the most vulnerable to coronavirus. As Defigena celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2020 and despite the exceptional circumstances, the entire team remains mobilised to support research and take up the cystic fibrosis challenge. Every year, the amounts collected make it possible to fund a doctoral student.

Sunday 31 May: Defigena proposes a challenge to 3000 virtual participants

Defigena is offering all those wishing to support research an opportunity to participate in this virtual edition via 2 actions:

–The funds will go straight from the Helloasso online jackpot to the Férec laboratory, and tax receipts will be sent to all donors. NB: the Defigena founding partners, Génération and Verlingue, contribute € 10 per participant as usual.

– On Sunday 31 May, all contributors take a photo/video of themselves the day of the virtual race and share it with Defigena, which pass it on via its channels: @Defigena (Twitter), Defigena Officiel (Facebook), defigena_officiel (Instagram).

During the whole month of May, Defigena will be reporting on the event and leading the community from its website www.defigena.fr and on social media.

About Defigena

Defigena was launched as a joint effort by Verlingue, Génération, the association Gaétan Saleün and Professor Claude Férec (Inserm laboratory, Brest) for fundraising in support of cystic fibrosis research, enabling researchers to broaden their knowledge of new treatments for this genetic disease that mainly affects the respiratory and digestive functions. In France, 6,000 patients are affected by this pathology, including 200 newborns every year. With a wide regional disparity due to local genetic bases, Brittany is twice as affected by this disease as the rest of the population. Donations go straight to the Inserm laboratory, which has become a world reference for research on genetic diseases, especially cystic fibrosis. The challenges are to pursue commitments and increase patients’ life expectancy by investing in state-of-the-art equipment and funding a doctoral candidate every year. www.defigena.fr
